[ just looking at his phone like ??? what the fuck am i supposed to say to that, it's like multiple layers of insult pastry with a tiny bit of patronising compliment filling ]
I am not.
[ nailed it ]
Ugh. If you're just going to find amusement in it when I get cross with you I'll stop giving you the satisfaction.
[ Truthfully, Will isn't quite sure how he feels about Glodell, all in all. It might be best to say that he has no strong feelings in any one direction in particular. He doesn't find the man particularly offensive or dangerous. Glodell is also not nearly as irritating as some of the other candidates in the race. He doesn't espouse racial discrimination or roussainte superiority, like Rudolf; he isn't as inherently loathsome as Jin. At the same time, Glodell has never shown even the slightest hint of having a pleasant core, and by all accounts, he's friendless aside from Hector, which means his friendlessness is probably at least a little self-inflicted, and Will isn't naive enough to offer a hand in friendship to someone who would sooner spit on it than take it. Maybe he pities Glodell, in a vague way, but at the same time, if the man died tomorrow he probably wouldn't be particularly surprised or saddened. He might make sure Hector was being taken care of, if the dog somehow outlived his master. But that's a lot of maybes.
Still, sometimes Will thinks his friends are a little too quick to rush to judgments that make their actions just and the actions of others unjust; Strohl and Heismay seem to shrug off the continual insults and glares from Glodell as the sort of thing that happens because "he's an unpleasant person anyway," but Will does sort of understand, at least a little bit, that ever since Will's party showed up, Glodell hasn't had many lucky breaks of his own. He's also keenly aware that he seems to have a knack for taking the wind out of the man's sails. Rationally, he does understand why Glodell doesn't like him, and understanding that is a strange feeling in itself.
Sometimes, innocently bullying him is a little fun. But is there any real hatred behind it? Does Will have any genuine appetite for antagonizing him? No, and no, on both counts, but it's temporarily useful to him for now to keep up the appearance of a competitive relationship, so long as they're both pretending to seek power in Louis's court. The more Glodell flounders, the better Will looks by comparison, but it feels wrong to use him like that, too.
He's lying about pretending to like Louis; he's lying about pretending to want the throne; he's lying about not liking Glodell, though it's equally true that he doesn't like Glodell. Sometimes Will wonders how he started lying about so many things; sometimes he even wonders if he's lying to his friends, and also to himself.
You're one of the Resistance spies, right? Gallica had asked him once, during the hike to Grand Trad. And then, for some reason, he'd thought: Am I?
He is, or so he thinks, and so it should be easy to lie. And yet, at the same time, it's also kind of true that it's funny to make Glodell squawk at things, so blithely, he continues: ]
Ah, really? So you're just going to be stoic and cool whenever we see each other?
[ that is definitely the most any other character has ever thought about glodell in a tag
but of course he has no idea about any of what will is thinking; he always assumes he's out to get him, and he reads that message in the most mocking tone possible. ]
Think me incapable of keeping a cool head, do you?
Fine. Yes. That is precisely what I'll do, and you won't enjoy a minute of it.
[ LOOK sometimes the introspection is for myself and no one else...
the answer to "does will think glodell is incapable of keeping a cool head" is 100% yes. he's almost certain that even if he keeps his mouth shut, heismay is going to call him a pinhead or something, and then glodell's going to start barking at everything in his vicinity again. but. ]
[ lmfao no i feel you every one of my fidelio tags has like five paragraphs of introspection in the brackets
anyway, for all his flaws, glodell is fairly self-aware. at least enough so that he does in fact also highly doubt that he would be able to keep his temper under control unless louis was looking right at him. so fuck it, if will's going to manage to find enjoyment in this either way, he'll just take the easy route and be true to his angry jerk self. ]
[ he doesn't fucking know what he's doing anymore honestly, he's been lost ever since that 'endearing' remark. ]
I'm not making an ACTIVE EFFORT to do anything to you.
[ that's pretty much always been true, actually, which is part of why it pisses him off so much that he keeps getting dragged through the mud worse than anyone else. ]
I just don't want to do anything that pleases you at my own expense.
[ and refraining from expressing his petty rage would be a sacrifice. ]
[ squints as he reads through the ingredients like he's half expecting there to be something in here that will combine horribly with the other flavours, but... he guesses it doesn't look like a prank..... ]

I like seeing you get all huffy whenever I say something strange and off-putting.

This is why there are people who don't give a damn about your tribe who still can't stand you.

Would you like a recipe for a warm drink?

It's based off a recipe for buttered rum, but I substitute the rum for apple cider since I can't have alcohol at taverns.
Drinking it hot, with a book in your lap... It's pure bliss.

Yes, I got that part, but why? You just suddenly decided to care about my having a pleasant evening?

I want everyone to have a pleasant evening.
Unless they've done something really bad.

What's the recipe?

I'll see if anyone I know knows how to cook for a dog.
