For the same reasons that boys do not tend to dress like their fathers, really — his mother might have gently encouraged it in some ways, they're both reasonable parents who would not have put makeup on a toddler until he was older. And then, suddenly and many years later, their beloved child was old enough, but he was used to dressing in plainer, preppy styles, and somehow he'd never had the thought of touching his father's black lip gloss... or purple eyeshadow.
But! Miwako is going to change that today!

( miwako truly was never the kind of person to impose upon others, only going far and high if the other person allowed. it was as if she truly was the sane one of her group of fashion designers, sewers, tailors who often would pull someone from the crowd and impose on them. with will, being a dear friend of hers, she could never really make him do anything he didn't want.
however as she began to pull forth the mannequin and some fabrics, she could sense and see some hesitation from him. it seemed to her that it was coming from a place of uncertainty about pulling off the look—
versus outright wanting her to stop. so she put down some of the items she had picked up and began to walk towards him. her expression was calm and full of warmth, and she moved slowly. when she finally reached him, her hands gently reached out for his to squeeze them with as much comfort as she could muster. )
Miwako thinks you'd look good in anything you'd like to wear. We don't have to go with goth if you don't want to, but I think your parents will without a doubt enjoy the change.
( with a tilt of her head, she gave him one last reassuring smile before pulling away and reaching for her bunny bag. once it was off of her, she held it out towards him. )

[ Everything in the world is better when you have a big bunny bag to squeeze, and being nervous about a (temporary) style change is no exception. Will is more curious than nervous, however, so he gives Usakumya a big, confident squeeze and decides to forge forward. Miwako's reassuring demeanor certainly helps a lot, too! ]
No, no, it's okay. It won't be too much. I was just startled, that's all... but you're right. My father will be really happy to see it.
[ He figures he might need his hands free for this, though, so (after one more... emotional support squeeze...) he puts Usakumya on a chair at the tea table for now so that it, too, can enjoy the tea and snacks.
Actually, he would also like the tea and snacks, but he decides he should check and see if Miwako needs anything from him first. ]

Perfect because there is just so much for you to try on and my mind is running wild with ideas.
( somewhere in the mess of everything was a sketchbook with a few doodles she had done between here and there-
possibly hinting that this had been an idea she's held onto for a while now. was she going to ever tell him outright? probably not, but the fact that he was here today just for her was enough to fuel all of her imagination and energy into making something unique and suitable for him.
as he placed the bag down, she moved towards the tray of tea and treats, serving them both up a cup of fragrant chestnut and rose tea, the warm steam wafting into the air. )

[ She really is very cute when she's gone into something with a plan. Will's eyes glance over her sketchbook as he passes it; sure enough, she's got some long-legged sketches of a model with hair that looks suspiciously like his, so this is possibly not as spontaneous as it seemed like it was at first blush.
Still, Will doesn't mind. There is, of course, something immensely flattering about being the focus of someone's creative vision. It's just funny that it just so happens that Will's dad is a silly middle-aged goth librarian. ]

[ Despite saying this, Will nevertheless sits down for tea and treats, smiling with a faintly murmured thank you as Miwako pours tea into his cup. He stirs it with a daintily provided teaspoon, less out of necessity and more for the experience, and then takes a sip of it. It's hot in the perfect way, and wonderfully fragrant, with a rose note that seems to sink warmly into his lungs.
He brightens once he's swallowed and everything sinks into his senses. ]
